Fertility acupuncture treatment – low ovarian reserve

Fertility treatment – low ovarian reserve

This case study outlines the fertility acupuncture treatment of a 34 year old female patient who was diagnosed with low ovarian reserve and had been trying to conceive for the last two years.  The patient underwent treatment from August to October 2024 over a two month period and later became pregnant in November 2024.

Visit 1: August 6, 2024

Presentation: Patient (34 year old female) had ovarian reserve testing on July 3rd. Results revealed that left side had no eggs, while right side had 3 eggs. Patient had same testing done the month prior and left side also had no eggs while right side had 5 eggs.

Tongue: Pink, coating greasy and yellow Pulse: Slippery and large Dx: Yin deficiency

Acupuncture points: CV4, CV6, KD3, ST36

Prescription: Wuziyanzongwan pills to take twice per day, four pills each time.

The treatment was continued for once per week for 8 weeks in total until early October, at which point patient’s insurance coverage ran out and she chose to not continue treatment. However, the patient later referred her mother to me for treatment and informed me that the patient became pregnant in early November. The patient also visited during pregnancy in March 2025 to treat issues with fetus continually trending under expected weight, and later gave birth to a baby with normal weight. For many cases of fertility there is underlying deficiency which needs to be nourished, and often I recommend patients stay away from detox regimes for the duration of treatment. Please note that your situation may be different and results may vary.
