Fertility treatment – low ovarian reserve
This case study outlines the fertility acupuncture treatment of a 31 year old female patient who was 40 weeks pregnant and was looking to induce labour with acupuncture. The patient had 3 acupuncture treatments on consecutive days and delivered a health baby after.
Visit 1: February 16, 2023
Presentation: Patient (31 year old female) was looking to induce labour at 40 weeks. Patient is in overall good health and there had been no complications with pregnancy. Blood pressure and blood sugar were normal.
| Tongue: Red, slightly thin at tip, coating is yellow near back of tongue | Pulse: Large with resistance. Right side wiry, left side more thready. | Dx: Minor yin deficiency |
Acupuncture points: Bilateral LI4, SP6, BL67, LR3.
The same treatment was continued on February 17 and 18. After the first treatment, patient felt more fetal movement. After the second treatment, patient felt a lot of pressure in the pelvic area. After the third treatment, patient started to feel contractions the same evening, went into labour at the hospital, and delivered a healthy baby in the span of about 30 minutes.
For labour induction treatments, we usually recommend that patients commit to treatment for 3-5 consecutive days, or at most every other day, in order for the effects of the treatments to accumulate quickly.
